Special Needs Project is the place for books about autism spectrum disorders (ASD), learning disabilties, special education and other special needs.

We are a unique disability bookstore and we have DVD's and fidgets too. We serve families, professionals, agencies, schools and general readers with the largest, most authoritative collection of disability-related materials. Special Needs Project is dedicated to making the best information available to those who need it. It's our mission to put the right books in the right hands

Books about aspergers syndromeSNP began in an independent general bookstore in Berkeley, California. Beginning in the early 1980's, Grays' Book Company produced a critical bibliography of the publications available at that time time. Special Needs Project became a distinct entity in 1989, and has grown from a local resource to today's catalog of over 1000 titles. SNP's knowledge base equips it as consultant and source for libraries, schools and others wishing to build special collections in such fields such as learning disabilities, autism, mental health, assistive technology, inclusion and independent living, disability rights.

SNP exhibits frequently at conferences. We'd be delighted to bring one of our popup bookstores, tailored to support your presenters' themes, to your event or workshop. Laraine Gray is our conference coordinator at 805.962.8087 or LA@specialneedsproject.com. (That's Laraine in the picture.)

SNP founder Hod Gray started his first bookstore in high school. He and Lynn Jehle started Gray's Book Company in 1980. Their daughter Dolly (1971-1989) was born with cerebral palsy. A former editor and foundation executive, he now devotes full time to Special Needs Project.
