A new teaching product for struggling learners!
Do you have students who are struggling to memorize their sight words? Stop the struggle!
Students effortlessly learn to read and spell these basic words because the imagery on the words causes it to stick in their long term memory. This unique learning technique shows the students how to use their internal "camera" to take a picture of the word. This enables them not only to remember the name of the word, but also to SPELL the word from memory. Many of your students will easily spell the word forwards and backwards, although this isn't necessary. This has often been called a "universal learning method" because it is so easy to use for even the most struggling learner. It helps students tap into their natural photographic memory.
Dianne Craft has made these 220 sight word cards with the unique "imbedding" technique that make them so easy to remember for our population. These colorful cards are available in sets by Dolch grade level: Pre-Primer (40 cards), Primer (52 cards), First Grade (41 cards), Second Grade (46 cards), and Third Grade (41 cards). What are "Dolch words"?
Edward William Dolch, PhD, published a word list in Problems in Reading (1948). He had researched children's books to determine which words were most frequently used. Dolch believed that learning his list of 220 "service words" would speed the development of reading fluency in children learning to read. Although some of the words in the Dolch word list can be sounded out using phonic knowledge, many cannot and have to be memorized as "sight words". Even the decodable words should be mastered for instant recall. The list is divided into grade levels, but most schools expect children to master reading all the words in the Dolch word list by the end of first grade. Learning to spell them all may take longer. The Dolch words are helpful for adults learning English as an additional language as well as for children and adults learning to read.
